I'm not buying these but I want to: Zara Leather Overalls.

You don't see a lot of leather overalls in Connecticut.  I know, surprised me too.  Which is half the reason I would wear these everyday but frankly, it's about to get pretty warm around these parts and covering my body in cowhides just doesn't seem like the right move.   I guess I could put them away until fall.  But if you get something and you don't wear it right away, did you really but it?  So the verdict is I really want these but I'm not buying them.

Now if Zara wanted to send some to the great Nutmeg state I wouldn't kick them out of my closet.  I also support everyone else getting them.  Because they're rad, so get them here.

Trend to Keep an Eye On: Add a Little Something.

I call this trend "add a little something".

Add some thin socks to your heels and cuffed pants.

Add a silly pom pom hat to your otherwise elegant look.

Add an oversized flannel on top of your button down shirt.

Do you know what I'm going to say here?  Add a strip on Mohawk fuzz to your beanie!

What I'm Wearing Now: Iro, Westward Leaning and Zara.

Remember when The Secret was trying to make itself happen?  The idea that if you put something out in the universe it will happen?  Well, I said the Kenzo tiger sweatshirt would be mine a few posts back, and although it didn't magically appear at my doorstep I found its cousin at Zara and brought him home with me.

Also in the picture are my Westward Leaning sunglasses, which if there was paparazzi photo spread of me saying "Gillian really loves her..."  it would be with my Westward Leaning sunglasses.  The jacket is Iro and even though I probably needed another jacket like I need a hole in my head, this one is very light weight and is perfect for that odd transition time between winter and spring.

When You Know a Love is True: Chloe Susanna Boots.

You know when something you like has been knocked off a million times, blogged about by every blogger you admire and you still don't care, you still love the thing?  That's how I feel about the Chloe Susanna boots.  I want to wear them with skinny jeans and oversized sweaters and feel really bad ass.

Walls That Talk but Don't Shout.

I'm currently living in a house for the first time since I was 14 when I left for boarding school, so having more space than a dorm room or a New York City apartment is a little overwhelming.  Especially overwhelming is the idea of decorating this house.  So I started looking around on different blogs and I discovered decorating a house is kind of like styling an outfit!  I can do that!  My first step was to identify a style and gather inspiration, in my search I discover this charming house decorated by San Fransico based designer Benjamin Dhong.  I was really taken by the neutral tones he used on the walls, and it struck me how you don't need to splash lots of different colors on the walls to create a mood or homey feel.  I reached out to him to get the scoop and he was nice enough to tell me exactly what colors he used so that we could know exactly what's going on in this gorgeous creation of his.

I'm pretty obsessed with this living room.  The walls are painted with Glidden Basic Beige with the trim in Benjamin Moore Linen White.

I love the pop of yellow in this white kitchen.  The walls and cabinets here are Benjamin Moore Hazy Skies.

This bold entry way is a beautiful Benjamin Moore color called Sea Star.  I might just have to use it for my dining room.  Dhong said it reminded him of a color you might see in Williamsburg, a reference I really appreciated.

I like this neutral grass cloth in the master bedroom, I'm think of doing something similar in my den.

Loving Laveer: A New Line from Kate Ciepluch.

I love jackets.  Mostly because I'm a little lazy and throwing a cool jacket over a good pair of jeans and a tshirt is the fastest way to chic I've found.  I think Kate Ciepluch, former fashion director of the beloved e-tailer Shopbop, agrees with me.  Hence, her creation of Laveer, a line focused on easy yet impossibly cool jackets that are quickly becoming an addiction for me.

I'm loving my "Revelry" Jacket, but I'm told it's nearly sold out now.  It's great with my Celine tote I use as my diaper bag.

This was the other option I was considering and now I'm kicking myself I didn't get both. Isn't is so Isabel Marant?

I'm also loving this style.  It's so easy!

Smooth Move: Alterna Caviar Perfect Blowout Creme

I got a very bad haircut recently.  Against my better judgement and my husband's warnings I got a haircut out here in the 'burbs instead of my tried and true place in the city.  But I'm short on time, as most new moms are, and getting your hair done is one of the only things you can't bring your little one along to.  So I went and it was bad.  I asked for a dusting, she cut over an inch off.  I told her I don't like blunt ends and that I wanted a few long layers, she started using words like "shatter" which I've never heard used in a salon before.  That's when my stomach started to sink and I knew I was in too deep but there was no going back.   Now, I'm left dealing with the fall out- or grow out as the case may be.  The thing that's getting me through is a product I found recently. Alterna's Caviar Perfect Blowout Creme.   It's helping to smooth out my rough edges and allows my hair to bend.  It also doesn't make my hair flat like a lot of smoothing products which is essential.

I've learned my lesson and I won't stray again, but on the bright side I did discover a product that's earned a permanent place in my heart and on my hair. 

Super Storm Shoes: Sorel Boots.

It's been an interesting few weeks here on the east coast weather wise.  It's only the beginning of November and we've already been rocked by a hurricane so powerful it was named a "Super Storm" and now I'm looking out into 5 inches of snow.  So,  what kind of footwear goes with this wet slushy horribleness?  Sorel Boots.

I don't wear a lot of color but I love these sweaters by Kenzo.  They're bright and they don't care who knows it.  Dr. Cosby would approve.

Balenciaga Monk Strap Boots

Part of the reason I keep this blog going is so I can keep a sort of dream shopping list.  I like to think one day some good sameriatian will see this blog and buy me all the things I've written about in the last few years. Just let me dream, okay?  Until that happens, here's the next item on the list.
I would love to wear these booties all winter with boyfriend jeans and an oversized blazer.

Protective and Practical: Christian Louboutin Egoutina Spiked Boots.

I haven't been interested in a pair of knee high boots since 2007, but for these I'll make an exception.  Here's what I like about them, with the low heel you'll actually wear them a ton.  I hate buying an absurdly expensive pair of shoes just to look at them in my closet.  The grey suede is going to go with everything and the spiked toe will keep you safe if you turn down a dark ally at night.  Kidding.  But those spikes are lending an edge to an otherwise almost ladylike style.

Loving Leather: A sleeve, a pant leg and a hem walk into a bar.

Lately, I've been loving leather accents.  A leather sleeve or trim adds just the right amount of edge to a jacket or pant without making you feel like a wannabe biker chick.

The jacket by the new Jbrand Ready-to-Wear line is on the top on lust list.  

This jacket by ASOS is a much more affordable way to wear this trend and I like the pockets too.

R13 to me is the final word in cool denim, but with a $795 price tag these leather legged pants may not be the most practical but that's not really the point now, is it?

WANT: Celine Nano bag

I think this would be a very practical, while slightly extravagant "Mom bag".  It's small so it'll be light enough to wear even when I have the baby strapped to me in her carrier and the messenger style leaves hands free.  So, whose buying???  I spotted her awhile back at Saks in Greenwich.  They had the most amazing selection of Celine bags, I thought it was a mirage!

Falling for Flats this Fall

I can't stop thinking about smoking slippers.  I want them.  Now.
As a soon-to-be new mom, I've been thinking a lot about how I'll retain my personal style while being covered in baby goop and I think the smoking slipper will be key in this quest.  I'm thinking jeans, an Isabel Marant tee, maybe a jacket, then add the jazzy smoking slippers and BAM!  Outfit accomplished.  Below are the slippers crowding my current wish list.

Nicholas Kirkwood.  Love the glitter toes and I'm not really a glitter girl.

Mui Mui. Love the velvet and the toe embroidery. 

Charlotte Olympia.  She sort of started this madness, at least for me, when she rolled out the cat slippers a few seasons ago.

Maternity Master: Hatch Collection

Since becoming pregnant last November searching for a chic maternity look seemed impossible.  I've learned a few things so far, maxi dresses are better on any day then maternity jeans and black hides the bump. That last note should be my catch phrase, I repeat it in my head like a meditation mantra.  Luckily at 6 months pregnant, when I was really feeling large and in charge, I was introduced to Hatch Collection.  Not only are their wears comfortable and flattering but they have just enough chic slouch to complement my regular non-pregnant style.  My first purchases have been wore constantly and I love how on the website they show you great ways to style your pieces after you deliver.  Check out a few of my favorites below and swing by their website for more inspiration.

Cheap and Chic: Old Navy Sequin Bag

Who needs designer collaborations when Old Navy just hit it out of the park?   I can't get over how luxe this Chanel meets Lanvin style sequin evening bag looks while still carrying a $24.99 price tag!  How can this be?!  I've been starring at this picture trying to figure out what's wrong with this bag and I can't find one thing.  It's the perfect thing to take to all the holiday parties you have coming your way.

Hear ye, hear ye.  Hot off the presses, are these images from Isabel Marant's Spring 12 Etoile catalogue.  I always like her spring collections better than fall.  I find, that's when she's able to produce her most authentically "slouchy French" pieces that make woman around the world go a little nuts.  This collection of looks from Isabel's Etoile campaign is fair warning to us all that what awaits us next spring will keep the chic hysteria going.  I wonder if there's an Etoile strait-jacket in the offerings?
